About me
BEVERLY LEE- strong>
Mariposa House (formerly Forks Abuse Program) (Clallam County)
I am First Nations from the West Coast of Vancouver Island. I have been working in the domestic violence field for 10+ years now. I believe this is the work I am meant to do. I am a survivor of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. I use my experiences and what I’ve learned from them and how they’ve made me that much more courageous. When I first started out, I didn’t want any women to have to go through what I went through alone. But, it’s much more than that to the women, men and children that we advocate for on a daily basis. I grew up in a home where women would come knocking on our door at 2:00 in the morning and no matter what we always got out of bed and stood alongside our grandmother as she cleaned, bandaged and comforted these women who had been hurt so badly. We have a real opportunity in the work that we do to advocate and to implement change. I am very excited about what is in store for our movement and for our beloved community and the changes that are to come and for the future of our programs and our leadership. I have worked at Mariposa House for 15 years as an advocate, tribal partnership coordinator and now a program director. I look forward to continuing to learn!
